Lieutenant General Jan C. Huly USMC (Ret.) (VA)
Jan Huly’s 37 years of active service culminated with his assignment as Deputy Commandant for Plans, Policies and Operations. His career included command of infantry and recruit training companies, an afloat Marine detachment, and of a battalion landing team, and duty with Headquarters Marine Corps and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Lieutenant Colonel Huly was assigned to 2d Marine Division in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations. From 1992 until 1994, Colonel Huly deployed as the Commanding Officer, 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit and participated in Operations Provide Promise and Deny Flight in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Continue Hope/UNOSOM II in Somalia. He has also served as an assistant division commander, as Deputy Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, and as Commanding General, MCRD San Diego/Western Recruiting Region.
Huly now serves as a defense and leadership consultant, having retired from the Marine Corps in 2006. He and his wife, Patti, live in Annandale, VA. His father was a Marine sergeant major who served as a Marine raider in WWII, rifle company first sergeant in Korea, and a sergeant major in Vietnam.
